— GENERAL APPROACH —
Frank’s teaching method seeks to balance the theorical, practical, and poetical aspects of music. He works with his students to develop an appreciation for musical structure, a strong understanding of the mechanics of musical practice, and a sense of intentionality to create a clear and focused musical expression.
— INSTRUMENTS AND DISCIPLINES —
Violin/fiddle: entry-level violin lessons up to advanced Anglo-American and Spanish-American/Southwestern/Norteño fiddle playing.
Banjo (5 or 4 string): vernacular 5-string banjo technique including frailing (clawhammer), “two-finger” (up leading), and “three finger” (down leading). He also teaches “classic banjo” (ragtime-era 5-string playing) as well as tenor banjo.
Guitar: leading melody instrument instruction as well as accompaniment for various vernacular musical disciplines including late romantic/ragtime-era parlor music.
Mandolin: leading melody instruction in both vernacular and late romantic/ragtime-era parlor music
Bajo Sexto: taught as an accompaniment instrument in Spanish-American/Southwestern/Norteño vernacular music.

Rates are on a sliding scale of $60-70 for weekly/regularly scheduled lessons, and $70-80 for one-off sessions.
